Fernyford

Big Fernyford Farm is located in open countryside on Reapsmoor, between Longnor and Warslow. The farmhouse dates back to the late 18th or possibly early 19th century, and there is evidence that some sort of dwelling was here as early as 1327 (see here).

Fern Cottage in Winter

Fernyford is a great place to get a feel of what life is like on a working farm. We run Swaledale sheep and Belted Galloway cattle. Farming never stops, so there's always something to see, and in Neil we have a resident champion sheep shearer for you to get to know aspects of farming life that most people never see! And please do take a look at the video on our Visit Peak District page.

We have converted one of the traditional farm buildings (the old cart-shed) into a fully-equipped self-catering cottage. Fern Cottage is a delightful property with stone floor downstairs and solid oak flooring on the first floor, exposed oak and stone lintels giving warmth and character. Recently gaining Four Stars from Quality in Tourism, it has an open plan Living room with fire place, fully-equipped kitchen with Belfast sink, double bedroom with 5ft bed, second bedroom with two single beds. Also on the first floor, the Bathroom has a shower and toilet. Under-floor heating downstairs and in the bathroom. The property has its own patio area to sit out and enjoy the peaceful location.
